HOW BEST TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM FRAUDSTERS

DO NOT

  • Do not call any numbers or click on any links in SMSes. We will never send you SMSes or emails with clickable URLs.
  • Do not enter such information into unverified webpages.
  • Do not provide your Access Code, PIN, card details or One-Time Password (OTP) to anyone. We will never ask you to reveal your PIN/OTP or transfer funds to personal accounts.
  • Do not authorise a transaction or login unless you know its purpose and do not transfer money to strangers.
  • Do not download or open any attachments from emails you find suspicious, even if they come from someone you know.
  • Do not respond to SMSes or emails asking for confidential information (e.g. your financial or personal information).
  • Do not access the OCBC app using ‘jail-broken’ or ‘rooted’ mobile phones (i.e. phones that have had their operating systems tampered with) as it increases the risk of malicious software infection.
  • Do not use unsecured or publicly available Wi-Fi to log in to OCBC Internet Banking/the OCBC app or make financial transactions.
  • Do not allow your web browser or mobile phone to store your login credentials.

DO

  1. Do be wary of calls with the ‘+’ prefix, especially when you are not expecting an international call. Always verify the identity of the person(s) and the organisation(s) contacting you by calling back on their official hotline numbers.
  2. Do check your bank account information, balance and statements frequently and report any discrepancies.
  3. Do log out once you are done with your online banking activities.
  4. Do read the notifications we send you carefully and alert us if any transaction was not made by you.
  5. Do be on the alert for suspicious emails and websites (which may contain malicious software) or mobile messages purporting to be from us. You should report these immediately by contacting us.
  6. Do update us immediately when there is a change in your contact details (e.g. your mobile number and email address) so you can continue to receive SMS or emails about your online banking transactions and activities.
  7. Do protect your computer with firewall, spam filters, and anti-virus and anti-spyware software. Ensure you are using the most up-to-date software and operating system version available. Update your software and system regularly to stay protected from new threats that constantly emerge.
  8. Do set up a screen saver with password protection on your computer or lock your computer when it is not in use. Make sure your computer and mobile phones are never unattended.
  9. Do secure your mobile devices with a password, PIN or other relevant security mechanisms to prevent unauthorised parties from using them.
  10. Do keep abreast of the latest scams and scam tactics used by criminals by visiting ScamAlert.sg regularly.

If you believe you have fallen prey to a scam, please visit any OCBC Bank branch or call our Personal Banking hotline at 6363 3333 (or +65 6363 3333 if you are overseas) and press 9 to report fraud. To temporarily freeze all your accounts, you can activate the emergency kill switch via the OCBC app, selected OCBC ATMs or our hotline (press 8).
