Staff volunteers sewed 300 fabric face masks to give to charity partners to help those who cannot afford to buy masks.
During these difficult times, there are groups in our communities who require help more than ever.
Singapore
To help our charity partners, who were short of food for their beneficiaries such as the elderly and the sick, we contributed S$110,000 to support more than 3,000 individuals from our 5 charity partners by:
We donated RMB1 million through the Singapore Red Cross to buy medicine, medical supplies and equipment for communities in China affected by the outbreak.
To show our support to healthcare workers who are on the frontline of fighting the outbreak, our 7,000 staff in Singapore, including our CEO and Chairman, penned individual appreciation cards to show our appreciation for healthcare staff at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Centre for Infectious Diseases. We also gave staff what they had wished for – 20,000 bottles of bird’s nest supplements and more than 45,00 packets of drinks and snacks. We also treated them to 14,000 cups of bubble tea.
OCBC Bank and staff also donated S$1,225,000 to support 1,000 needy Singaporean families and 55,800 migrant workers under isolation. Each family received S$800 in supermarket vouchers to supplement government payouts, and help them tide over till the end of the year. As for migrant workers, we provided foods, additional personal protective and cleaning equipment and personal necessities to help make their period of isolation more bearable.
To ensure that our support does not duplicate the help given so far, we proactively reached out to more than 20 charity organisations, non-government organisations (NGOs) and dormitory operators to understand the plight and needs of these two groups. This way, in line with the #OCBCCares programme, we are able to provide targeted help to address gaps.
Malaysia
OCBC Malaysia contributed RM500,000 (about S$165,000) to support Malaysia’s COVID-19 Strategic Preparedness and Response Plan. The donation, made through the Association of Banks in Malaysia, will support MERCY Malaysia as it procures urgent healthcare and medical equipment as well as other essentials required by public hospitals in managing the outbreak. We hope that our contribution will make a difference to Malaysia’s front-line health care professionals who are working tirelessly to provide adequate support for the community.
