#OCBCCares
Our #OCBCCares Programme focuses on doing our part to protect the environment and on helping the more vulnerable in society.
Recognising the growing issue of dementia along with the rise in Singapore’s aging population, the OCBC Glowing Years Programme is designed to help tackle the silent disease.
In partnership with AWWA, the OCBC Glowing Years Programme is a holistic programme to help take on the fight against dementia. Combining a fun exercise regime with a compelling incentive scheme, points are awarded to participants of keep-fit or mentally-stimulating exercises.
The programme has shown positive results, hitting the sweet spot in motivating vulnerable seniors by rewarding them accordingly to improve their motor and cognitive skills - two of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of dementia.
Here are the most popular rewards amongst our seniors:
- Massage
- Manicure
- Walks down memory lane
By 2030, more than 130,000 seniors may suffer from dementia.*
Dementia does not only affect the old. Aminah was diagnosed with dementia when she was 50 years old.
An estimated 4,000* people in Singapore have young onset dementia. Many are still working and bringing up young children when they must begin fighting the disease (National Neuroscience Institute 2016). The increased number of patients with young onset dementia could also be due to the higher prevalence of vascular risk factors such as hypertension and diabetes today.
