In this special post we take a look at the recent OCBC Kids@Work event through the eyes of Alvin Lim, and Christine Zhuang, and their children Elizabeth and Elijah.

Alvin is from Group Data Management Office while Christine is with Group Finance.

Their adventure at this annual event offers profound insights into the power of family, education, and sustainability.

Q1: Elizabeth, could you share your favourite activity at the OCBC Kids@Work event?
Elizabeth: Absolutely! I loved constructing the terrarium. It was like creating my own little oasis of greenery. And the best part was decorating it with my origami art. It felt like turning a science lesson into an art project!

Q2: Elijah, you mentioned enjoying the Nerf gun game at the event. Could you tell us more about it?
Elijah: The Nerf gun game was so much fun! But it wasn't just about having fun; it was about learning. We were "shooting" away bad habits, like using too many plastic bags or wasting energy. I learned that even small actions can make a big difference.

Q3: Both of you mentioned learning about sustainability at the event. Could you share some of the lessons you took away?
Elizabeth: Well, I learned about the greenhouse effect and how it's related to tree planting. It made me realise how important it is to take care of our planet. Trees can help reduce carbon emissions and prevent the ice from melting in the Arctic.

Elijah: I learned about some of the simple things we can do, like using fewer plastic bags and turning off lights when we're not using them. It's about doing our part to protect the Earth.

Q4: Alvin and Christine. As parents, how did attending the event strengthen your relationship with your children?
Christine: The event was a unique opportunity for us as parents. Both of us work at OCBC in different departments, and our kids often hear us talking about work. Attending the event together allowed our children to see what we do in the bank. It was a day where work and family life came together, and it made us feel closer as a family.

Q5: Elizabeth, you surprised us with your origami skills at the event. Can you tell us more about that?
Elizabeth: I love origami! During the event, I used recycled materials to decorate my terrarium. It felt good to use something old to make something beautiful. I even folded some origami for the new friends I met at the event.

Q6: Elijah and Elizabeth, what did you learn about banking at the event?

Elijah: Before the event, I thought a bank was just a place to keep money. But now I know it's more than that. It's like a big puzzle with lots of pieces that help people and businesses.

Elizabeth: Yes! It's not just about savings. Banks do a lot of things to help the world, and I want to learn more about it.

Q7: Any memorable moments or adventures from the event you'd like to share?
Elizabeth: Oh, there was this one time before lunch when they were checking attendance, and our chaperone had to step out for a moment. Elijah and I went on a little adventure to find her. It felt like a treasure hunt, and we found her just in time!

Q8: Looking ahead, do you plan to attend the event again next year?
Alvin: Absolutely! We wouldn't miss it for anything. It's a wonderful way for our kids to appreciate what we do at OCBC and for us to spend quality time together.

Q9: Alvin, you mentioned an interesting idea about children shadowing their parents at work. Can you tell us more about that?

Alvin: It's just an idea I had. Imagine if children could spend a day at work with their parents, seeing what it's like to attend meetings, solve problems, and understand what their parents do. It could be a fantastic way to inspire young minds.

Q10: In conclusion, what are your overall thoughts on the OCBC Kids@Work event?
Alvin: This event is a fantastic opportunity for our children to learn, bond as a family, and develop their interests. It's not just about banking; it's about planting seeds of curiosity and building lasting values.

The OCBC Kids@Work event is a journey that exemplifies the power of education, family, and sustainability.

Thank you, Alvin, Christine, Elizabeth, and Elijah, for sharing your remarkable experience with us.
